Environment Day Forum
In response to the Environment Day, FoE (HK) organised the "Environment Day Forum: Hong Kong – Road to Zero Carbon” on 6 June 2016 to promote a "zero carbon and zero waste” vision.
Over 130 participants attended the forum to discuss the roadmap to zero carbon and renewable energy, with representatives from the Environmental Protection Department and Consumer Council, industry leaders, academics, consultants, green groups, and professional bodies.
Mr. Stephen Wong, chairman of the Clean Air Network, spoke on green finance in supporting the development of a sustainable, low-carbon and climate-resilient economy; Ir. Conrad Wong, the past chairman of the Hong Kong Green Building Council, proposed the concept of a zero-carbon high rise building; Mr. David Brown, adjunct assistant professor at the Hong Kong University of Science & Technology, presented a revolutionary proposal by two Australian NGOs to reenergise Australia with 100% renewable energy; Dr. Jimmy Tong, associate at Arup Hong Kong, introduced the carbon reduction & renewable energy commitment taken up by cities & countries around the world after the Paris Agreement; Mr. Chiang Tung Keung, chief operating officer of CLP Power HK, explained the opportunities and challenges that Hong Kong will encounter on its road to renewable energy and zero carbon; and Mr. Lau Chi Kwong, general manager of Hong Kong Electric, gave a perspective from its side on renewable energy development.
