With the support and legal advice of FoE and other green groups, two green activists filed judicial review to challenge the decision made by Environmental Protection Department for granting the approval to the 3rd runway project’s environmental assessment report. The report failed to address the air and noise pollution problem associated with airspace issue, and the absence of mitigation measures for the habitat damage of Chinese white dolphin during construction period. These are viewed as not complying with the Environmental Impact Assessment Ordinance.

Let’s Take a “Brake” together!

On 10 February, FoE celebrated with 54 organisations on their achievements in the 2014 Take a “Brake” Low Carbon Action - Corporate Green Driving Award Scheme. Since its inception in 2010, the Scheme has achieved an accumulated reduction of 84,000 litres of fuel per month, and has taught 204,000 employees about green driving practices and green living attitude. Let’s act together to help reduce roadside air pollution!

Earth Partners - Woodland Conservation Day

Woodland Conservation Day at Ma On Shan Country Park was organised for FoE’s Earth Partners on 31 January. Earth Partners took care of the planted seedlings (such as weeding and pruning) to increase their survival rate, help them grow faster and stronger to become mature trees.

Together with a group of individuals and organisations concerned about the 3rd runway project, FoE has established the People’s Aviation Watch (PAW). We aim to solicit views from the public, to critically review the Airport Authority Hong Kong’s proposals and to propose alternatives. We urge the Government to make its decision for the best interest of the public, to ensure that public money is spent properly and wisely, and the marine ecology as well as air quality are properly protected.
