With the support
and legal advice of FoE and other green groups, two green
activists filed judicial review to challenge the decision made by
Environmental Protection Department for granting the approval to
the 3rd runway project’s environmental assessment report. The
report failed to address the air and noise pollution problem
associated with airspace issue, and the absence of mitigation
measures for the habitat damage of Chinese white dolphin during
construction period. These are viewed as not complying with the
Environmental Impact Assessment Ordinance.

Together with a
group of individuals and organisations concerned about the 3rd
runway project, FoE has established the People’s Aviation Watch
(PAW). We aim to solicit views from the public, to critically
review the Airport Authority Hong Kong’s proposals and to propose
alternatives. We urge the Government to make its decision for the
best interest of the public, to ensure that public money is spent
properly and wisely, and the marine ecology as well as air
quality are properly protected.
